Dr. David Orton
Dr. David Orton has dedicated his life to veterinary medicine, with over 37 years of experience in the field and 27 years as a practicing veterinarian.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, from just three months of age, Dr. Orton has always called Georgia home. He earned his undergraduate degree from Georgia State University, majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, before going on to graduate from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.
In 2004, Dr. Orton opened his own practice in Dahlonega, which he successfully operated until 2013. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with Lumpkin, Dawson, and Hall County police dogs, and has also partnered with the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve in Dahlonega. His commitment to the community includes serving as the acting veterinarian for the Lumpkin County Animal Shelter and frequently assisting Lumpkin County Animal Control. His dedication and compassion earned him the honor of being voted Best Vet in Lumpkin County by the Dahlonega Nugget Readers Poll.
At home, Dr. Orton is a proud dog dad to two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Olaf and Fenrir. He is also a devoted father to two sons, ages 22 and 24, who he considers the most important people in his life.
When he’s not caring for animals, Dr. Orton enjoys spending time on his hobbies, which include home improvement, landscaping, soccer, and fishing.
